STROBLE  to  ST. GILGEN   to  SALZBURG

Today will be another very interesting day. First we bike an easy 15 km from Strobl to St.Gilgen, the birthplace of Mozart’s mother. From here a very tedious and 40 km long stretch would bring us by bike around a long mountain spur before we could continue on to Salzburg. We overcome this obstacle by giving up the bikes and hiking to the top of  the Kühleiten Alm which takes us about an hour. When we get to the top of this ridge covered with alpine meadows and providing a wonderful view, we once again get on our bikes which have been brought around the long way by our van. Now we can look forward to a long downhill run through canyons and hidden valleys towards Salzburg. Just before reaching our goal, we have to conquer a few small hills but then are rewarded by a long downhill run into Salzburg and some wonderful view of the town and its fortress from the hilltops. Time permitting, we will visit the little jewel of Schloss Hellbrunn and wander in its spacious park and enjoy its many fountains before passing four other little palaces on our way to our hotel.
